ADVANCED ACTING APPLE SHAKES

ADVANCED ACTING APPLE SHAKES

About our Advanced Acting Apple Shakes Program: This class is a non-musical class introducing the works of William Shakespeare to middle and high school aged participants (AGES 11 - 18). The class encourages young artists' development by teaching advanced acting techniques (emotional connection, stage combat, stage romance, and advanced memorization) as well as is an extended program to promote teamwork and performance quality. Participants learn the historical context and performance practices of Elizabethan actors as well as the rehearsal process of the time. Participants are cast in roles after in-class auditions to begin the traditional “rehearsal” process while using games as skill builders and theatrical workshops to promote artistic growth. Rehearsed for a long period of time to encourage full textural understanding, performance confidence and polish, this is an excellent class for drama hungry youth.

2024-2025 Show:
The Tragedy of Macbeth

About the Show: William Shakespeare’s bloody dramatization of the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power. The play itself has a lore and of its own in the theater world!

On his way home from war, Macbeth, a Scottish general, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders the current King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then racked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take Macbeth and Lady Macbeth into the realms of madness and eventually, death.
